LEARNING METHODS AND APPLYING MICRO SKILLS IN COUNSELLING

Learning Methods for a Counsellor and Applying Micro Skills

An effective counselling requires experience, gathered with necessary information of which has been applied for the benefit of the client. For a trainee counsellor, the vital methods are reading counselling skills and following improvements, updates about professions, discussing issues with other counsellors and be cautious and brave enough to practice in his/her life. However, when they learn and realize it into their lives; they may come across troubles like lack of practice, unsatisfactory preparation, uncontrollable feelings such as shock, amazement, laughter etc.

That everybody is a learner, everybody is a teacher and every script tells you something useful or inapplicable should be the slogan and philosophy of a trainee counsellors. The more they are open to learning, the more experience they will have. Because experience doesn’t convey the meaning of the days a person has lived but the inputs s/he has learnt from life. Besides inquiring information using the power of observation and mind, reading about the skills and modern methods related to counselling is what a trainee counsellor should follow as a guide. S/he will be able to synthesize their skills and find an opportunity to renew him/herself with the help of professional documents.

Nothing is stable in the world and most of the methods, which were used in the past effectively and brought about a huge change in the history, are being replaced by new versions. A multi-functioned counsellor`s today mustn’t be as the same as yesterday`s. The counselling is also cultivating day by day, tries to keep up with the innovations affecting human life, and analyses the psychology of the people considering the rotation around them. One of the best ways to acquire the necessary resources is to get along with the technological improvement and to be able to use them properly. In addition to analysing the human mentality, a counsellor should prepare for the following problems and solutions.

What is more for a trainee counsellor to apply as a learning method is questioning and consulting the answers within their environment and colleagues. Asking them questions and discussing some issues by respecting their ideas allows the counselor to evaluate events from different perspectives and they will have the opportunity to foresee what may happen to them in the future. As a result of that; when they start to consult, they will be more courageous whilst meticulous.

Nevertheless, it has always been full of obstacles to apply some micro skills until a counsellor has their own way to be acceptable by professions and clients. First and the most crucial ones are not to have much chance to observe and practice implementation during training. When a counsellor experiences an alien event, s/he may remain under stress. In addition to that, a counsellor should be aware of what to do in detail from his/her mime to sitting position. Gathering all the necessary documents and information about clients is indispensable for the beginning of therapy. Without sufficient preparedness, therapy may get worse. The other difficulty that is foreseen to bump into with the trainee counsellor is not to deal with hiding his/her expressions and feelings during the sessions and therapy. This may cause inconvenience between the client and counsellor.

These include video demonstrations, role modeling, and creating a criteria list that contains all the necessary requirements for excellent therapy with wise and sophisticated counselors whom they can find in counselor organizations, in which they should enroll.
