IS TOO MUCH QUESTIONING HEALTHY?

IS TOO MUCH QUESTIONING HEALTHY?

Two of the main drawbacks of being questioned too much on the student are to make them feel worry and to decrease their self-confidence. These feelings prevent counsellors from having beneficial information from students and conclude the session in failure. Moreover, students can adjust themselves to reply to questions just when they are asked to. Therefore, a quality counsellor should consider feelings and thoughts when arranging the quantity of questions.

What differs questioning in the police station from in the counselling session room is to find
out someone or something for accusing or blaming. Therefore; the policemen ask many and various questions to detect the reason for the case. The people who are questioned can be anxious or feel guilty and hide the truth about them. However, in the counselling session, the environment is set up to make the student feel confident and safe. Rather than finding anything or anyone who is suspicious, it aims for students to unclose their feelings and make them relaxed by helping them to speak more with few but appropriate questions. If a counsellor overuses the number of the questions, the student may feel restless and may not give clear answers.

In today’s counselling world, one of the most effective ways to come to a healthy solution in
a session is to apply student-centered therapy. When a counsellor asks excessive questions to
the students, they may sense the counsellor as the controller of the session and don’t comment
or unhide their feelings.
That is going to make the therapy difficult for both counsellor and student. What a counsellor
needs is to discover students emotions and thoughts on the issues they bother or deal with.A counsellor can ask the question why effectively in the session. Nevertheless, the counsellor
should consider the psychological situation of the student. If the students are able to think
logically and set cause and effect relationships, it would be beneficial especially
at the end of the counselling to make students aware of themselves and direct
them to find a way to come to a conclusion.
At the beginning of the therapy, it may be useless and even slow down the progress.

Dependency in Counseling: Risks and Solutions

Dependency on a therapist can have negative consequences for clients, such as loss of self-confidence, decision-making difficulties, and emotional immaturity. It may also lead them to seek refuge from negative aspects of life, such as job rejections or losses in games. On the other hand, dependency on a client by a counselor can cause the counselor to prioritize their own enjoyment rather than the client's needs, leading to boredom and duplication of the problem. Dependency can be expected when clients have feelings of disappointment, stress, or anxiety. To avoid dependency, it is essential to set boundaries and not become too friendly with clients. Counseling sessions should be conducted in a legal and ethical manner, and counselors should clearly state the boundaries before beginning the process. If dependency still arises, it is necessary to admit it and be sensitive to the client's emotions. Counselors can schedule sessions at longer intervals and teach clients how to dea...

Modeling In Counseling

Modeling In Counseling There are several approaches to modeling for counseling trainers that help to cultivate their career as a counselor. These include video demonstrations, role modeling, and creating a criteria list that contains all the necessary requirements for excellent therapy with wise and sophisticated counselors whom they can find in counselor organizations, in which they should enroll. Trainees are expected to check the criteria list in detail after completing a triad session, and qualified trainee counselors need to evaluate the results and note their missing points with their friends and ask them to criticize how they led the session. They can also mark themselves as if in the positions of teacher and student. In addition to these, creating a setting to observe people's psychology and their reactions in each situation to detect their problems and deduce some ideas from their approaches to phenomena can be counted as another way of modeling. In this case, the traine...

Usage of Appropriate Phrases and Feedback While Counseling

Some counselors even teachers get trapped by their words while guiding their clients and students. The choice of words could make the session even worse. Please see the examples and definitions below to lead clients better.   a-) The statements below show the characteristic of appropriate feedback.  I feel this situation tensed your nerves and that sometimes makes it hard for people to control their behaviors. I understand you r feeling. Sometimes, when we are frustrated, it is a bit hard to speak calmly.  As a counsellor, it would be great to help in a peaceful atmosphere rather than a nervous environment. These statements would be more suitable when the client is nervous and uses inappropriate words about the situation but in front of the counsellor. These statements aim to explain the disturbance caused by the clients without breaking their heart and blaming them.
